1000 Books Before Kindergarten is a fun way to encourage adults and children to read together and helps introduce children to as much vocabulary as possible before they enter kindergarten. Children who have experienced a larger vocabulary have a higher chance of success in kindergarten. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends reading to infants, starting from birth to aid in brain development and vocabulary growth!
Don’t be overwhelmed by the number of books!
You can count the books you read over and over again, books you hear at storytime, audiobooks and books in different languages!
To participate, stop by the Children's Desk at the Library to sign up. You will receive the 1-100 log, a growth chart with book suggestions and early literacy tips and a sticker!
Once you and your child complete the first log together, bring it back to the Library for your next log, another sticker, and to check out more books.
To keep motivation high, your child will earn special prizes when you submit the logs for your first 100 books, 500 books, and when you log all 1000 books! Any child who has not yet entered kindergarten can sign up.
