Strategic Plan: 2023-2028

Cultivate a Reading-Rich Community

Darien is a town of voracious readers, and a community that reads together, leads together. We will lean hard into our “bookish” brand by offering more opportunities to engage readers. This includes launching new reading challenges and community-wide reading programs.

This also includes a renewed focus on early literacy programming for children under five and family support for parents and caregivers.

Inspire Curiosity, Learning, and Creativity

Lifelong learning is strongly correlated with increased health, happiness, self-confidence, and resilience. We will increase our focus on supporting and encouraging critical thinking and creative expression through special events, programs, and workshops that spark curiosity and teach skills.

Bring People Together

In a time of increasing division, disconnection, and loneliness, we aim to strengthen community ties and civic engagement through programming and initiatives that foster community-building across multiple generations. We will focus on a few key demographic areas, notably tweens and teens, empty nesters, and those new to town.

In addition, we will continue to offer forums for deep dialog and discussion on important topics, be it intellectual freedom, aging well, or supporting the mental health of our young people.
