Event Details

Attention adults:  fight the historical Battle of Ridgefield, Connecticut in miniature!  Join gaming expert, John Spiess, who will re-create this real life battle of April 27, 1777.  

This year marks a milestone: the 250th anniversary of the start of the war, and the battles of Lexington and Concord, is on April 19, 2025. 

Participate in a strategy based game using painted miniature figures and terrained boards. Learn a little history and have some fun! John is an expert from HMGS Next Gen, Inc., whose purpose is to promote the study of military history through the art of tabletop miniature wargaming.

About John Spiess

John Spiess is the co-founder of HMGS Next Gen, Inc. Considered one of the old "veterans", John’s gaming experience goes back 50 years. John is also a skilled figure painter and model terrain craftsman, which are other aspects of miniature gaming.

John has also written and published several gaming rulesets, including Trench Wars, which focuses on WWI game simulations, as well as Halberd, Mace, & Great Sword, which can be used for numerous medieval time periods ranging from the Arthurian Dark Ages through the later medieval War of the Roses. John serves on Next Gen’s Board and is the organization’s Executive Director.  

John is a lifelong Connecticut resident, currently living with his family New Canaan.  Professionally, John has worked in the banking industry for over 30 years, specializing in the area of Trust and Estates.
