April is Autism Acceptance Month, and here at Darien Library, we celebrate neurodivergence! Did you know that anywhere between 75-95% of Autistic people have special interests? A “special interest” is defined as an intense focus on a specific topic. Many people—both neurodiverse and neurotypical—can have a special interest. These interests can range from pop culture to technology to historical events or time periods—and beyond! Having a space to share these interests with others can help aid in developing positive social skills, communication skills, and learning habits. If you are a teen with a special interest that you really love, we would like to hear about it! Each participant will have about 10 minutes to share their topic. No prior speaking experience or presentation is required to participate. This event is open to any teen who has a special interest that they would love an open space to talk about.
