Darien Library, along with Barrett Bookstore, welcomes author Sheri Koones who will discuss her latest book on smaller house styles, this time focusing on accessory dwelling units, otherwise known as ADUs.
Darien recently passed legislation allowing ADUs to be built on properties throughout much of the town. Come listen and get amazing ideas and inspiration from this leading author of home construction.
About the Book
An Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) is a smaller housing unit built on the same lot as a primary dwelling. It has an arrangement for sleeping, cooking, and a lavatory. The uses are myriad—they are ideal for family members, guest spaces, rental income, and more. In the book, Sheri has included attractive, well-designed ADUs in areas all over the U.S. and Canada. For each structure, she has included information about the type of construction, the major green features, and how it is used. A variety of styles (e.g., laneway houses, garage conversions, stand-alone structures, and ones connected to the primary house) show versatility and ways to blend new ADUs into the architecture of the primary house and neighborhood.
