Darien Library is pleased to welcome Sophie Cabot Black as our Poet’s Voice 2024 guest, as we celebrate National Poetry Month in April. Sophie Cabot Black has written three award-winning volumes of poetry, and her poems have appeared in numerous anthologies and journals. She has also published essays, written song cycles, and a libretto. Born in New York City, Sophie grew up in rural New England. She has taught at the New School, Rutgers, Columbia University, and the 92nd Street Y, and appeared at national literary festivals around the country. Of her poetry, Billy Collins said, “Her poems are difficult without being too difficult…You do have to pay attention and if you do, you get rewarded.”
For over 45 years, Poet’s Voice has presented readings by prominent poets in Fairfield County. Our guest poets have included U.S. and Connecticut Poet Laureates, Pulitzer and Nobel Prize winners, National Book Award winners, and other notables.
Please join us after the reading for a wine and cheese reception, and meet the poet.
This program is supported by the Horace E. Manacher Poetry Fund and Friends of Greenwich and Darien Libraries.
