One of the most beloved artists of our time, Henri Matisse (1869-1954) painted iconic works throughout his lifetime; even at its inception, Matisse recognized the significance of The Red Studio when he completed it in 1911. While extremely controversial in its early years, the painting is now considered a foundational work of modern art and a landmark in the genre of the painting of the studio.
