Thinking about a weight management strategy? Dr. James Bonheur and Dr. Leo Otake from Stamford Health will discuss A to Z considerations for people seeking weight loss, including medical options before and after substantial weight loss. 

About the Presenters

Dr James Bonheur, Division Director of Surgical Weight Management at Stamford Hospital, is board certified in general surgery and fellowship-trained in minimally invasive and bariatric surgery. Recognized as a leading surgical specialist, he expertly performs a variety of procedures that cure disease, improve quality of life, and enhance appearance. Dr. Bonheur is consistently voted as one of America’s “Top Surgeons” in the fields of minimally invasive surgery, bariatric surgery, and venous disease. He’s been repeatedly selected as one of Connecticut’s top physicians and has been honored with the “Patient’s Choice Award” and the “Most Compassionate Physician Award.” Dr. Bonheur has held research and clinical positions affiliated with Harvard University, Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston University, Columbia University affiliate Stamford Hospital and the New York College of Medicine affiliate Danbury Hospital. His research has been published in prestigious medical journals, and he has presented at numerous national conferences, including the National Institute of Health (NIH) and the American College of Surgeons Clinical Conference.

Dr. Leo Otake, a distinguished plastic surgeon with expertise in reconstructive microsurgery, offers expert body contouring services following significant weight loss. He graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Pennsylvania and undertook his medical education at Yale in addition to a PhD in Cell Biology and Biochemistry. He received his surgery residency training under the direction of Dr. John Persing at Yale-New Haven Hospital. He received additional specialized fellowship training in Reconstructive Microsurgery at Stanford University. Dr. Otake has an interest in complex reconstructive procedures and tissue engineering. He has authored articles on telemedicine technologies to facilitate delivery of expert care to distant sites, collaborating with surgeons in Columbia, Brazil, Peru, Ecuador, Argentina, Nepal, and Zambia. He has also joined teams of surgeons to deliver surgical services to the Amazon region of Brazil, Honduras, and Jordan.
