This movement and dance workshop will explore the Six Principles of Nonviolence, created by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in his book, Stride Toward Freedom. Kingian Nonviolence is a philosophy that helps people of all ages with nonviolent conflict resolution. Children will be creating a word wall using vocabulary that connects nonviolence to social justice. Participants will create dances together and end the class with a visual arts project to express our ideas about how to create positive change in the world.
Ages 6 to 10.
About the Artist
L'Ana Burton is a Master Teaching Artist through the Office of the Arts in Hartford, Connection. She has been teaching children of all ages how to use their bodies to express ideas and feelings for over 20 years. L'Ana trained at the Connecticut Center for Nonviolence in 2019 and she is certified in teaching Kingian Nonviolence through the Arts.
