The Children's Library is delighted to welcome back local author Valerie Bolling for a special Saturday program! This family storytime will focus on her newest picture book, I See Color, that celebrates every radiant shade of skin through important figures across history.
I See Color is a picture book that celebrates people of color by highlighting their achievements and contributions to society. Hear about groundbreaking activists & leaders like Madonna Thunder Hawk and Basemah Atweh during this special read-aloud!
Following the story, families will have the chance to participate in a Q&A with the author and work on an art project inspired by the book.
Families who sign up prior to June 8th will receive a FREE signed copy of Valerie's latest book while supplies last.
Ages 5 and up. Younger siblings are welcome to attend with their grown-ups, but please note that the book's audience is recommended for elementary school children.
About the Author
Valerie Bolling is passionate about creating stories in which all children can see themselves and feel seen and heard, valued and validated. In addition to I SEE COLOR, she is the author of five other picture books (LET’S DANCE!, TOGETHER WE RIDE, TOGETHER WE SWIM, RIDE, ROLL, RUN: TIME FOR FUN!, and BING, BOP, BAM: TIME TO JAM!) and RAINBOW DAYS, a Scholastic Acorn early reader series.
A graduate of Tufts University and Columbia University, Teachers College, Valerie has been an educator for 30 years and is an active member of the kidlit community – teaching picture book classes, serving as a mentor, and presenting at conferences. Valerie lives in Connecticut with her husband where they enjoy traveling, hiking, reading, going to the theater, and dancing.
